چکیده

Abstract In eusocial honey bees, Apis mellifera , diet, gut microbiota and nestmates can all contribute to the health of freshly emerged individual workers, but their relative importance for longevity body weight is currently unknown. Here, we show that diet most relevant, followed by presence nestmates. Freshly workers were randomly assigned eight treatments (with or without honey/pollen, protein-substitute lactalbumin, antibiotic tetracycline 24 h) maintained under standardised laboratory conditions. Longevity food consumption measured daily fresh was assessed at day 7. The data a significantly better survival higher in supplied with honey/pollen. Survival lactalbumin compared ones restricted sucrose only, lower those highlighting micronutrients. contrast, treatment had significant negative effect on weight, which may be explained inactivated and/or toxicity antibiotics. There no positive nestmates, probably due short exposure period. showed antibiotic-treated possibly transmitting pathogens antibiotic-induced dysbiosis. conclusion, macro- micronutrient-rich appears key bee worker health. Providing an optimal promising way promote managed A.

Stable isotopes and diet: You are what you eat

Archaeologists frequently use many different sources of information to reconstruct ancient diets, including faunal and macrobotanical remains, pollen and phytoliths, as well as pottery residues, coprolites, and indirect sources such as skeletal pathology, dental wear patterns, artistic depictions, and ethnographic observations. In most cases, however, the result is only the determination of the...

Wernicke encephalopathy consists of a triad of ophthalmoplegia, ataxia, and altered mental status. When we think of this axiom, we conjure visions of ample food portions, rich in energy, high in fat, and associated with persons of equally ample body size proportions and body fat composition. However, these relationships are more complex than they may appear at first glance. The physical, physiological and behavioural manifestation of the compl...

D ebate over the smallest eye requires a definition of what makes an eye. The answer to this question, generally given by those considered authorities, is that an eye is an organ that receives and recognises light and has the ability to define spatial detail. Specifically, an eye can compare the amount of light coming from different directions. This definition means that an unusual collection o...

Cytosine modifications in the honey bee (Apis mellifera) worker genome

Epigenetic changes enable genomes to respond to changes in the environment, such as altered nutrition, activity, or social setting. Epigenetic modifications, thereby, provide a source of phenotypic plasticity in many species. The honey bee (Apis mellifera) uses nutritionally sensitive epigenetic control mechanisms in the development of the royal caste (queens) and the workers. The workers are f...
